John and the Magic Music Man
The film sets out to capture childrens' imaginations with a beginner's conducted tour of the symphony orchestra and all its strange, beguiling instruments. It uses a fantasy story about a boy's dream-encounter with some almost human instruments to highlight their shapes and sounds.
Although initially intended as an educational film to be shown schools, it was selected by Alan Parker and David Puttnam to be shown in cinemas before the feature film 'Bugsy Malone', leading to the film having a global theatrical release. It was widely distributed in cinemas by Rank Film Distributors in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
